Educational Program:

Montessori House is a bilingual school covering English and French.  The child/teacher ratio is approximately 8:1.  We follow a modern program in keeping with Dr. Montessori's belief. The work place is not over-crowded or distracting, with attention being paid to the development of aesthetic awareness.

A) Nursery

Children 2 to 4 years can be enrolled in one of the following four programmes:

Nursery 1 (aged 2+) 3 mornings
Nursery 1 (2 ½ to 4) 5 mornings
Nursery 2 (2 ½ to 4) 5 mornings/2afternoons
Nursery 3 (2 ½ to 4) 5 mornings/4 afternoons
B) Primary Programme

Children 4 to 8 years can be enrolled in either of the following two programmes, both consisting of 5 morning and 4 afternoons:

Primary Children aged 4 to 5
Elementary Children ages 6 to 8
Curriculum :

The Montessori materials cover developmental activities designed to meet the needs of children in five curriculum areas:

  • Practical life skills.
  • Sensori-motor activities.
  • Mathematical skills.
  • Language skills.
  • Cultural Knowledge.

Music, Gym and Swimming :

For music and gym classes, tracksuits are recommended. A school sweatshirt can currently be purchased from the school for 17 €.

For swimming lessons, children should bring a towel, their swimming costumes and a swimming cap. Boys must have proper swimming briefs; the local pools will not allow children to swim in shorts and the like.

Field Trips :

Children visit museums, exhibitions, go on nature walks,etc... at least three times each academic year.

Lunch, Snacks and Other :

A packed lunch should be sent for children staying full days. A microwave oven is available for heating food, if need be. It is requested that parents provide morning snacks for the class on a weekly basis (2-3 turns per academic year).

Children are required to bring in slippers to wear in the classroom and boots for the garden. Nursery class children should also bring in a complete change of clothes - tops and bottoms, underpants and a pair of socks.

The Montessori approach aims at children becoming independent as early as possible; we therefore recommend that children wear easily manageable clothes and shoes. Children staying afternoons, in particular, should wear velcro shoes and avoid wearing dungarees, salopettes, etc...

Bus Service:

The school has a door-to-door Bus Service.  The cost is determined by the distance travelled.

Parent-Teacher Relationship :

Regular parent-teacher meetings, written and verbal reports and classroom visits all create essential close ties between parents and the school. We encourage parents to assist in various activities. This involvement enables us to establish a cooperative and supportive relationship between the school and home.We firmly believe that the school shares a mutual obligation with parents to develop the full potential of each child.

This brief on-line prospectus will provide you with some basic information about Montessori House Belgium. However, it cannot capture the friendly and cheerful atmosphere of the school. This can only be achieved by a personal visit. You are always welcome to visit, but please make an appointment first to arrange for a convenient time.

We look forward to seeing you at Montessori House Belgium.
